Phonics
At Whitelands Park, we use the Read Write Inc. Phonics scheme to ensure children learn to read accurately and fluently, with good comprehension. This program helps children form each letter, spell correctly, and gradually compose their ideas.
Understanding the critical role of reading in a child’s future education and life opportunities, we are dedicated to fostering a love of reading. We achieve this by teaching reading skills through personalized groupings that align with each child’s reading stage. Each week, every child takes home a book that corresponds with the phonics they are learning in school. This enables them to practice their growing phonics knowledge and tackle ‘tricky’ words, ensuring early and frequent successes. Repeated readings of these texts support their journey towards fluent decoding.
To further support our efforts, we hold termly meetings for new parents to provide guidance on supporting their children's reading at home.
